About J2SE 5.0 (or Java 2 version 1.5)

Some of our users have been getting the following error message when trying to run FreeCol 0.3.0:     :1:1: Content is not allowed in prolog ... followed by a stack trace. This error is due to a change of implementation in Java's XML package and will appear in case the game is ran with Sun's J2SE 5.0 or any of IBM's JREs. We have fixed the bug in our current development version of FreeCol. This fix will be integrated in the next release of FreeCol, but you can also download the current version from CVS to give it a try (instructions here).
